Macbeth in Lenox

November 20, 2022

Yes, pictures from this play again. But with big differences. The first set was a dress rehearsal shot at Chatham High with no audience. This set was shot in Lenox, Massachusetts with a big crowd of people who had been fully steeped in Shakespeare while making their own plays for the last several weeks. The Shakespeare & Co. stage is meant to mimic the feel of the original Shakespeare theaters. You sit very close to the stage on three sides and two levels. So I was shooting from an angle that was literally not possible in Chatham. And they have a considerably more advanced lighting setup. All of which means the performers feed off an amped up audience sitting right on top of them. Chatham’s version of Macbeth was pretty intense to begin with and the different setting caused them to turn it up to eleven. Also, this was the final performance of the four day festival, so the ending was pretty emotional.
