2022 Chatham Grad Parade
June 24, 2022
In 2020, with the school year in tatters, someone in the town of Chatham had a genius idea. Since graduation had been moved to the fairgrounds, with each family processing in their car to maintain that social distancing, why not just keep that train going right through town? And they did, creating a parade of graduates through town, with huge numbers of residents standing on the sidewalks, cheering on the graduates. My son was part of that parade of graduates and it was a beautiful thing to experience. I said right away that this should be done every year, not just for the pandemic. And apparently I was not alone in that sentiment because it’s now become the tradition. So here is my view of this year’s parade. I didn’t get the graduates who chose to hang out the driver’s side of their car, just in case you’re wondering why I missed some.
