The travel soccer season came to its end tonight as Voorheesville visited FC Columbia. Last season the two teams fought to a pair of ties but it was a very different result this year. Voorheesville transitioned into a much younger team, while Columbia was powered by a core of players that had taken Chatham to the Section II semifinals in the fall. I’ll be honest, I don’t even know what the final score was on this game. There was a point in the first half where the referee searched for a Columbia player who hadn’t scored to take a free kick. In the second half a Columbia player took over playing goal for Voorheesville as the visitors had no bench at all for the game. And then Columbia spent most of the half trying to get goals for their graduating senior defenders. Give Voorheesville a lot of credit though, they kept playing hard and took the beating good naturedly.
