The first round of the Patroon Conference playoffs featured a battle between the number two seed Chatham and number three seed Maple Hill. Inclement weather had cancelled a lot of the Patroon soccer matchups but this one was bumped to later in the evening in the hopes of escaping hard rain. The rain came and went as the game proceeded scoreless through first one half and then another. Chatham controlled the tempo in the first half and Maple Hill controlled the second but neither could score. One round of overtime didn’t solve the matter but the rain picked up. A second overtime produced the same result. It was time for a shootout and the skies opened up. The rain poured down hard and the wind picked up so fiercely that it flipped over Chatham’s bench shelter. But Chatham’s shooters outgunned Maple Hill’s shooters and Maya Narofsky netted the final goal to win it for Chatham.
