The last gasp of summer here before the kids return to school is the Columbia County Fair. Thanks to a friend who used to compete in demolition derbies, I’ve got a real soft spot for shooting this event. There’s an odd sort of beauty to it. The time of day mean the setting sun streams through the grandstands, highlighting blasts of steam and geysers of dirt and smoke as cars smash into each other. It should be ugly and yet it’s not.
