Raptors

Here’s a handful of shots of big birds of prey. Some of them were luck and others were a serious effort. The first three are of a red tailed hawk that flew overhead as I was taking a long walk with my wife. I had the camera and big lens with me because it’s not unusual to see some wildlife on these walks. And it’s just as likely to see nothing. That day I got lucky.

The other five shots are of juvenile bald eagles. I’d been wanting to shoot them for a long time but every time I spotted one, I didn’t have my camera. This led me to do a ton of research to work out the most likely locations. And then I had to get up at 4AM to make sure I was in position at the right time. As a lifelong night owl, that was a big ask. But totally worth it. The weather was iffy and they never landed particularly close but it was a nice first effort.
